How Theater relates to my major

Theater can be interpreted in many ways in life. Each major in college requires some form of theater. My major is Sports Administration. One aspect of theater that I use in my major is acting. Here is what I mean. I'm from Pittsburgh, so naturally I'm a Penguins and Steelers fan. Chances are there is probably not going to be openings in these organizations anytime soon that are entry level. With that, I may have to leave Pittsburgh and work for another team. If I work for another team, I obviously have to act like I like them. I can still secretly root for my teams, but I have to be able to put on a face that I support the other teams. Not supporting them would probably give me problems in my job because there may be people in the organization that have been fans of the that teams their whole life. I would be angry if I worked for a Pittsburgh team and an employee didn't support the team.

Another aspect of theater pertaining to my major is that sports is a constant show of entertainment. It requires lots of behind the scenes work (like in theater) to put on a good show. The organization itself doesn't have control over how the athletes perform, but they do control the experience they provide for the fans. All organizations try to give fans the best experience they can offer. Much time goes into the marketing that the organization puts out to attract fans to come to games. The organization also has to decide what type of entertainment is going to be put on for the fans. This isn't just the game itself, but the mascots, perogie races, and any other side shows to keep the guests attention. The organization must decide what kind of food will be offered. This is all behind the scenes things that people don't think of when they go to an arena. People know going to a production that lots of time was put in behind the scenes such as making props. People don't think of all the time and effort that an organizations employees put in to make a good experience.

Acting is a huge part of the sports industry, but the stage setting is too. The stage in sports is the arena that they are played in. The arena sets the mood. You get excited when you walk in because everything is Pittsburgh Steelers, or Baltimore Ravens, or Philadelphia Eagles and that sets the mood. I feel that the arena also tells a story. You're either going to have lots of things pertaining to how great the organization is with displays of championship teams or you are not. People that experience those teams can look back on memories and tell their stories. A style is defined by the arena. The owner will design the arena how he or she wants the team to be portrayed. An arena can also provide an environment that embodies the characters' lives. Photos, murals, and other pieces of art will be displayed throughout the arena. It will tell a story of the players or characters and show their journey on the team. Their personal life will not be shown, but the life they are living for the team will show through pictures and such on display. The stage is important to the sports industry because if the stage is bad, no one will want to see the show. Again, it gives people an experience. Fans want a good experience so they are excited to come back for more. If your stage is not providing a good experience, then a change in scenery will be required.
